Yesterday, I helped a client reset her home office after she faced some major, unexpected changes in her career and personal life. She wanted a fresh start in her workspace to feel motivated and ready to restart her business and welcome clients again. In three hours, we completely transformed the room by rearranging, cleaning, and decluttering.

Why a Room Reset Matters
When life changes suddenly, our environment often reflects the chaos we feel inside. My client’s office was cluttered and overwhelmed with books, and papers. This clutter made it hard for her to focus or feel inspired.
Resetting a room is more than just tidying up. It’s about creating a space that supports your goals and energy. A well-organized office can:
Boost creativity and focus
Reduce stress and overwhelm
Encourage a positive mindset for work
Make it easier to welcome clients or collaborators
For my client, the reset was a way to mark a new chapter and invite success back into her life.
The Process of Refreshing the Space
We started by clearing out the obvious clutter. The client was able to release a laundry basket full of books. They were in really good condition, so she decided that she would try to sell them to a second hand book store or donate them. (Many of the books were her boyfriend's, so they stayed until he can sort them himself.) This step alone created a noticeable shift in the room’s energy.
Next, we rearranged the existing furniture create a more open feel and shift her perspective. She decided to remove a printer stand and the printer was moved to the bookshelf that had more space after discarding so many books. Then we moved a large shelving unit, that housed her books and plants, to the window that was more recessed which also opened up the room as well. In 3 hours we shifted the energy and the space feels cozier and more welcoming. We couldn't do everything, but she now has a plan for what's left: go through a couple of small bins of office supplies and create a fabric skirt for her open desk until she can replace the piece for something with a bit of storage.
Here are some practical tips I used that you can apply to your own space:
Sort items into keep, donate, and discard piles
Place frequently used items within arm’s reach
Use clear containers or labels for easy identification
Arrange furniture to allow natural light and good flow
Add personal touches that inspire you, like plants or artwork

The Impact of Having Support
One of the biggest challenges my client faced was finding the energy and motivation to tackle this project alone. Having someone there to guide her through the process made all the difference. I encouraged her to make decisions quickly and helped keep the momentum going. We actually had fun chatting about her space, her life and her business.
This support helped her overcome the overwhelm and made the reset feel manageable. It also created a sense of accountability, which kept the project on track. Sometimes, a fresh perspective and a helping hand are exactly what you need to create a meaningful shift.
How a Room Reset Can Spark a Life Shift
Resetting a room can seem like a small task, but it often triggers bigger changes. For my client, this refresh was a symbol of moving forward after a difficult period. The clean, organized space gave her a renewed sense of control and optimism.
If you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed, consider how your environment might be holding you back. A room reset can:
Help you let go of the past
Create space for new ideas and opportunities
Improve your daily habits and routines
Increase your confidence to take on new challenges
This kind of shift doesn’t happen overnight, but starting with your physical space is a powerful first step.
If your workspace feels cluttered or uninspiring, a reset can change a lot. It doesn’t require a full renovation or expensive purchases—just time, focus, and a willingness to let go of what no longer serves you. And sometimes, a little help and guidance.
